Built Around the Practical Side of Selling Online

Driftwood Helm started from a simple observation: many growing Malaysian online shops share the same operational knots. We exist to help untangle them.

Our Story

Where the Name Came From

The name Driftwood Helm comes from a specific image — a piece of driftwood that has been shaped by water into something smoothed and useful. We think that describes well-run operations: refined by experience, functional, and without excess.

Driftwood Helm was established in Penang by a small group of people who had spent years working inside e-commerce businesses — in warehouses, on catalogue teams, on the back end of fulfilment systems. What we noticed, again and again, was that operational problems rarely came from bad intentions. They came from processes that had outgrown the habits built to manage them.

Sellers often know something is off — orders take longer than they should, product data is inconsistent across listings, returns pile up with no clear owner — but the day-to-day pressure leaves little time to look at the whole picture. That is where we come in. We step back, walk the process, and describe plainly what we see.

We are based at Penang Times Square in George Town. Most of our work is with Malaysian sellers across Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, and independent storefronts, though the operational challenges we address travel across platforms.

Our Mission

To help Malaysian online sellers handle their operations with more steadiness, more clarity, and less daily friction — so the act of growing feels manageable rather than chaotic.

Our Approach

We observe before we advise. We document before we recommend. And we involve your team throughout, because lasting improvements are built by the people who carry them out day to day.

Our Focus

E-commerce operations only. Listings, orders, fulfilment, and returns. We do not spread across every business discipline. Focused attention tends to produce better observations.

How We Work

Our Working Standards

A few principles that shape every engagement, regardless of size or scope.

Observe First

Before any recommendation is made, we spend time understanding how your operation actually works — not how it's supposed to work on paper.

Written Clearly

Everything we produce — notes, process maps, handover guides — is written in plain English your team can read and use without additional explanation.

Confidentiality

What you share with us stays with us. We treat all operational and commercial details as confidential and are happy to sign formal agreements before beginning.

Team Involvement

We do not work around your people. We work with them. Their knowledge of day-to-day reality is essential, and the changes that stick are the ones they help shape.

Scope Clarity

Scope is agreed before any engagement begins. We do not expand beyond what was discussed without a separate conversation and your consent.

Data Handling

Any operational data you share is handled with care, kept only as long as needed, and not used for purposes beyond the engagement we agreed.

About Our Work

Operations Advisory for Online Sellers in Malaysia

The Malaysian e-commerce sector has grown considerably over the past several years. With that growth has come operational complexity that many sellers were not fully prepared for. Managing product listings across multiple platforms, co-ordinating with logistics partners, handling returns from customers in different states — these tasks compound quickly when volume rises.

Driftwood Helm works with sellers at different points on that curve. Some come to us after a period of rapid growth where their original processes have simply not kept up. Others reach out because they are about to scale and want a cleaner operational foundation before doing so. A smaller number come to us during quieter periods, using the space to document what they do and why — building the kind of institutional knowledge that makes it easier to bring in new staff or hand over responsibilities.

Our advisory approach draws on direct experience inside e-commerce operations rather than on abstract management frameworks. We understand Shopee seller centre workflows, Lazada logistics integration, and the particular shape of customer returns in the Malaysian market. That specificity matters when assessing operational problems and proposing improvements.

We are a small practice by design. Each engagement is handled by the people who agreed to it, not passed to a junior team after the initial meeting. That is part of what keeps the observations accurate and the documentation genuinely useful.
